Men who are sexually abused are more likely to sexually abuse others. That's a harmful myth.

The idea that men who have been sexually abused are more likely to become abusers themselves is unfounded and can be incredibly damaging. It perpetuates stereotypes and can discourage survivors from coming forward and seeking help.

Here are some facts:

  • Most survivors do not become abusers: The vast majority of people who have been sexually abused do not go on to abuse others.

  • Abuse is about power, not sexuality: Sexual abuse is a harmful act of power and control, not a reflection of someone's sexual orientation or identity.

  • 1 n 6 men have been sexually abused before the age of 16.

  • Most pedophiles are serial offenders

Seeking help is important: Survivors of sexual abuse need support and healing. It's crucial to encourage them to seek help from professionals or support groups.

If you or someone you know has been sexually abused, please reach out for help. Here are some resources:

  • The National Sexual Assault Hotline: 1-800-656-HOPE

  • The Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN): https://rainn.org/
